Travelling to Alishan? Here’s everything you need to know!

September 21, 2018

How to get to Alishan. thesmoodiaries.com

ALISHAN SERIES: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TRANSPORTATION TO ALISHAN! (Part 1/4) Maybe a brief intro about Alishan first.  Located in the middle between Taichung and Tainan and is pretty much in the smack center of Taiwan, Alishan is a mountain inside the Alishan National Scenic Area.  Now, within this area is another area called Alishan Forest Recreational Area and you can think of this area loosely as a large park/village with lots of hiking trails for you to explore the outdoors.   Alishan is most famously known for 5 things, which they deem as the 5 wonders of Alishan: 1) The gorgeous sunrise 2) The authentic Alishan Forest train that you ride to and from Alishan 3) The equally gorgeous sunset 4) Cloud sea 5) The Forest Trails. The 2 other things I would like to add are: 1) The Alishan Railway bento box and 2) Cherry blossoms. The below information is easily found on the Internet; however, getting information in English about the transportation to and from Alishan was difficult, so I’ve decided to make it easier for travellers looking to visit Alishan! In fact, there is a whole Alishan series to ensure you’ve got everything covered, from the Top Things To Do in Alishan, Where To Stay in Alishan, and 5 Things You Should Know Before Going To Alishan.

5 things you should know before going to Alishan! thesmoodiaries.com

ALISHAN SERIES: 5 THINGS I WISH I KNEW BEFORE GOING TO ALISHAN, TAIWAN! (PART 4/4) My post on Everything You Need to Know About Alishan has done unexpectedly very well…. which means that besides myself, there are a lot of other travellers looking for the information on the Internet. As such, I have decided to extend the Alishan series in time for the next Cherry Blossom season so you can have more information about Alishan to better plan. Without further ado, let’s get started on the 5 things I wish I knew before planning my trip to Alishan.

The Top Things to do in Alishan, Taiwan!

Top things to do at Alishan. thesmoodiaries.com

ALISHAN SERIES: THE TOP THINGS TO DO IN ALISHAN, TAIWAN! (Part 3/4) Usually I like to do a must eat post for the places I go to; however, the Alishan Forest Recreational Area is quite small, and our dinner was included into our hotel package; henceforth, I didn’t try enough food there. The food we did try at the Alishan Forest Recreational Area didn’t necessarily blow me away, so we will roll any food that we do recommend in with my ALISHAN: THE TOP MUST DOS! Let’s go!

Going to Alishan? Where should you stay?

January 10, 2017

Everything you need to know about Alishan, in Taiwan. thesmoodiaries.com

ALISHAN SERIES: WHERE TO STAY IN ALISHAN? (Part 2/4) I don’t know about you, but when I started my research on where to stay in Alishan, it was incredibly confusing… SHAN is mountain in Chinese and I thought I would be watching the famous Alishan sunrise on Ali Mountain, but that’s actually not true – the most popular spot to watch the sunrise is to watch it at Zhushan/Chushan (sometimes the way they spell things is not consistent), so apparently there’s another mountain. So, it turns out Alishan is a mountain range. Also, if you search on TripAdvisor, any hostels/hotels in Chiayi also advertise themselves as Alishan hotels because Alishan is in Chiayi County, but it’s a big area and you need to make sure you stay in the most convenient place so you can get your butt up to see the sunrise. So… where should one stay in Alishan if you want to watch the sunrise?
