CANTO SLANG: EPISODE 1
I speak Cantonese fluently (or at least, I think I speak it fluently, but my coworkers will tell me otherwise). In Canada, I only spoke Cantonese with my family so I never picked up much slang, but oh my, there’s a plethora of them!
I’ve had the pleasure of learning this, this week:
BOIL OLD LOTUS ROOT
WTF is that?
Boiled old lotus root is a Chinese soup cooked with the oldest lotus roots possible for the best taste and is used as a remedy to eliminate the extra “wind” from our body (祛風). When a younger guy “boils an old lotus root (the older women), it’s usually seen as him gold digging on the older women; hence good for him, as like the soup.
