CANTO SLANG: EPISODE 19
Super easy one this week and quite common.
WTF is that? This slang’s etymology isn’t quite so hard to get and is relatively easy to guess. Can you guess what it means?
The origin of the slang does not date back to those historic ancient times, rather the origin derives more from the visualization of the slang.
You’ve probably seen and heard Cantonese speakers (or spoken it yourself). We like to speak it and spray it (and we are really loud about it), so much so, there’s an adage that translates to: “you have more saliva than tea” (口水多過茶), so blowing water is a visualization of how we look when we are speaking – with our saliva blown out of our mouths, and flying everywhere and in all different directions. You’re welcome for that imagery.
